About this place
Thai spices and herbs bring a lively contrast to Italian classics at Wine Bar AMANe Aman Nakameguro. The counter menu includes tom yum kung arrabbiata, where tangy heat clings to pasta, and tacos filled with Thai fermented sausage. Even the smoked potato salad, served with cured ham and iburigakko (smoked daikon), is designed to pair well with wine from the start of the meal.
The wine list centres on natural wines selected from Japan and abroad, with distinctive orange wines and lightly sparkling rosé among the choices. There is plenty to accompany a glass, too: rich flavours include brown cheese with a salted-caramel quality, sheep’s cheese paired with Pedro Ximénez, and venison salami with red wine. If you are unsure what to choose, asking the owner for a pairing suggestion is one way to find a cheese or small plate to match the wine of the day.
Dessert options include smoked nougat glacé and Chocolat de Sauternes, made with noble-rot wine. In the compact room, with music playing in the background, you can take your time over dessert and the lingering flavours of the wine.
